JEC Group is launching its next edition combining an exhibition area, Business meetings, and conference sessions.

Following the success of the last two North-American events focusing on the Construction and Transportation industries, this new edition is bringing together these two complimentary markets through technical presentations dedicated to the use of composite materials in Ground Transportation and Infrastructure.

This unique event will include:

  • Partners showcase presenting how and why composites offer benefits and opportunities through innovation
  • Unique pre-arranged Business meetings
  • The conference sessions covering a series of subjects highlighting a wide variety of technical developments (light-weighting, design flexibility, fire safety, building codes, manufacturing, etc.) about the use of composite materials in Ground Transportation and Infrastructure.
  • A unique networking approach to engage business discussions, create the framework for collaborative research and development to target critical impediments that are currently limiting composite uptake (fire, cost, material supply, codes, etc.)

Why Chicago

Chicago is the third largest city in the United States and boasts one of the USA’s most diverse economies. Choosing it as the home of JEC Group’s “JEC Forum” events was an easy decision considering its strategic position as a global transportation and infrastructure hub, supported by a large manufacturing network. Its history, and central location in North America have made it a focal point for connectivity and infrastructure. It is seen as a center for smart city applications and deployment.

As such, Chicago is uniquely positioned to lead the international conversation about moving toward the city of the future.

Illinois itself, is the fifth largest state economy in the U.S., with automotive and transportation among its many major industries, and is investing heavily in its rail infrastructure. The state, and Chicago, also possess an increasingly strong construction market, from commercial to residential and infrastructure.

Composite materials present unique and unparalleled answers to the advancements needed in both the transportation and construction industries, such as reducing fuel and energy consumption thanks to lightweight solutions, increasing parts integration, prioritizing fire retardancy, facilitating large scale production, etc. Chicago, and Illinois’ dynamism and constant developments make it a natural fit for JEC’s vision, with manufacturers and architectural firms such as Adrian Smith + Gordon Gill Architecture, bKL Architecture, CannonDesign, CC industries (which owns Gillig), Great Dane Trailers, Motor Coach Industries, Nippon Sharyo, Perkins+Will, all based in Illinois.

Chicago is an exciting and sought-out destination which offers many must-see attractions such as the famous Chicago Riverwalk, the Park at Wrigley Field, the museum of contemporary art, and breathtaking views of Lake Michigan.

Composites are quickly becoming the material of choice in the Infrastructure and Transportation industries. Their unique properties make it possible to improve the quality of urban life and provide solutions for increasingly pressing environmental concerns.

It has been estimated that by 2050, about 64% of the world population will be living in urban areas, while simultaneously, 80% of the world’s resources will be employed within them. As a direct consequence, new insights and solutions in ground Transportation and Infrastructure are immediately necessary in order to manage the deficient resources that will be impacted by this trend, as well as operate new and regenerated urban spaces.
